Foon Ying! Welcome to Lan Hua! We hope you enjoy all the content in this site. XD The site is best viewed in 1024x768 resolution. The layout has been tested in IE and Mozilla Firefox although it might look a bit weird in IE (looks best in Firefox) (<--all based on Freya's computer).
About Lan Hua
First opened up on June 20, 2006
Lan Hua was formally a graphics site called Nowadays Simplicity. However, not too long after the grand opening, school kicked in and updates were few. Then it came back as Lan Hua with multimedia. The main area changed to manga and graphics.
Lan Hua hosts the following: manga, a few titles of anime, music rotation, graphics, and basic chinese. We also try to host other things as well, but try not to overwork. ^_^
About the Name
Lan Hua means Orchid Flower or just Orchid in Chinese. It can also mean Blue Flower! If you didn't know, well guess what! You learned something today! The reason for the name isn't really anything. It just sounded nice and it just kinda came to me. But actually, to tell you the truth, there was another name that I was going to use instead of Lan Hua. It was Jasmine Tea, and in Chinese it'd be something like Hua Cha. But I didn't like it that much until I thought of Lan Hua. Before thinking about Hua Cha, I was thinking about keeping the name Nowadays Simplicity. But it just didn't spark that big of an interest in me this time.
But it's kind of interesting with all the different Chinese dialects and variations. For example, if I wanted to use Blue Flower in another dialect (Cantonese for example), it'd be pronounched something like either Lam Fa or pronouned Lam Sick Fa (not the actual wording in English/pinyin but the pronunciation). If I wanted to use Jasmine Tea in another dialect, it'd be something like Fa Cha.
Well, anyway, that's the end of that lesson. XDD
About the Host
Lan Hua was first hosted by FSPHost. But I've experienced some difficulties in their server. Apparently they are sometimes down a lot and their system is really slow. Also, you can't really upload batch files into your account, which sucked even more. The only good thing about it was it's amount of space. But I didn't really need that. I've put up with FSPHost for awhile but even after about a month, my patience couldn't keep up with my thoughts. So I changed to SiteSled. I wasn't really sure if it was a good host. I kept on comparing it to atspace, trying to decide which was better. Well, in the end I decided I liked SiteSled instead of atspace. Actually I was really curious about SiteSled since I've never used it before. Atspace, I've used before. When Enternal suggested it in the chatterbox, it just sparked my curiousity and I went with it. Well, so far my experience with my current host is great. It's not slow or anything, so I'm happy, all thanks to my curiousity and my awesome affy, Enternal. XD
However, I'm thinking about moving to a different host that supports PHP. That way it'd be easier to update. But first I gotta learn how to use it. XD
